Tips and tricks for traveling on a budget

We all have a dream vacation or dream destination that we’d like to visit. Some of them may seem out of reach and others just require a bit of saving up. There’s lots of ways you can have a vacation without breaking the bank. If you’re willing to forgo some of the conveniences that you’re used to then you’ll be able to take that vacation.

Travel off season

Flights will be cheaper and so will accommodation prices if you travel during the off season. Bonus, you won’t have to deal with a large crowd of people too.


Do your research and figure out where the cheapest places to stay are. This also includes places you’ll want to see and how to see them for cheap. Be on the lookout for discounts too. There are lots of websites and apps you can use for this.

Ditch the hotel

Hotels are more expensive compared to hostels, Bed and Breakfasts, and even Air BnB locations. See where you can stay for a lower price.

Public Transportation

Take the bus or the train. Renting a car can get expensive and taking taxis are a big no. Learn about the public transportation options in the place you want to visit.

Local currency

Make sure you know what the general exchange rate of your money is going to be like. This will help you determine how far your money will go.

Eat local

Avoid the tourist restaurants. Go to where the locals eat and try out the daily specials. It’ll be cheaper and you’ll get a more immersive cultural experience. Consider buying food at local grocery stores too and having a picnic.
